Over the past week, the Republican Party in the United States was killed. It was killed, officially, by the Club for Growth. Unofficially, the Teabaggers and the 912ers' killed the party.

The primary symptoms of something dead is a corpse. The corpse that will give witness to this truth ~ when the masses comprehend the truth I present here ~ is Dede Scozzafava in New York's upstate 23rd district. This morning she, the Republican Candidate, selected by Republicans in the District, withdrew from the special election on Tuesday. She quit.

The dying gasp of the Republican Party is Ms. Scozzafava's withdrawal from the race. She is out of money, and under attack. She could have remained silent ~ put on the brave face ~ accept the defeat on Tuesday that most were predicting ~ given a proud consolatory speech on Tuesday evening ... and no one would have noticed anything unusual. By withdrawing from the race as she did ~ The Republican Party is gasping its last breath ~ saying 'NOTICE ME'.

Why did she quit ... because the Club For Growth felt she wasn't Republican enough. They funded a candidate under "The Conservative Party" ... and attacked the Republican; and the Republican Party with Rovian Dirty Tricks. The Club For Growth launched ads and a web site with the message "Draft Dede for Democrats".

Oh, and the candidate they support .... he doesn't even live in the 23rd district of New York.

You people who claim to be Republicans .... Do you realize this is being done to your party?

You will want to blame this on 'The Liberal Media' ... you will want to blame it on my ~ mostest liberalest guy here ... You'll want to blame it on everyone, except yourself.

You let Club For Growth bludgeon the Republican Party to death. You let Glenn Beck and his moronic 912 Project set fire to your house. You let Bill O'Reilly and Fox (9 hours of) News Channel (a day) swallow the decent Republican Party.

You've created this beast .... and now, sadly, we ALL need to live with it.

I hope that Ms. Scozzafava's supporters vote for the Democrat as a protest against the interference of the extreme right. Let's hope that are some serious conservatives out there who will either fight for an inclusionary "big tent" Republican Party or, by their votes, let the party wallow in obscurity until the voices of the neo-cons are minimized.

Her name remains on the ballot. I hope that all reasonable Republicans support the Republican candidate.

P.S. It had not occurred to me when entering the initial post, or the follow up; The Republican Party just ran a WOMAN candidate out of the campaign. She was a moderate. But, she was also, a woman.

As a man ... I don't know how this fact might affect women voters in NY's 23rd. But, now that I have been made aware ... ... I can't help but ponder the gender issue.

Oh, it's going to be an interesting Tuesday.

For the right it is not longer a political party, interested in winning elections.

it is a cult, and one must believe.

Cult is the word! They get programmed with talking points from folks like Luntz and Castellanos and Armey and they swallow it all whole and without question.

Maybe a new market will develop for de-programmers.

Ms. Scozzafava just released a statement endorsing Mr. Bill Owens, the Democratic Party candidate for the Congressional Seat for New York's 23rd District.

Quote:
I want to thank you for your support and friendship. Over the past 24 hours, I have had encouraging words sent to my family and me. Many of you have asked me whom you should support on Tuesday.

...

Please join me in voting for Bill Owens on Tuesday. To address the tough challenges ahead, we must rise above partisanship and politics and work together. There's too much at stake in this election to do otherwise.

What's Next, you ask?

Let us recall the words of the sage: Dr. Peter Venkman

Dr. Peter Venkman: This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions.
Mayor: What do you mean, "biblical"?
Dr Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor, real wrath of God type stuff.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Exactly.
Dr Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Dr. Egon Spengler: Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes...
Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave!
Dr. Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!

Someone must be reading our posts-
Quote:
The battle for upstate New York confirms just how swiftly the right has devolved into a wacky, paranoid cult that is as eager to eat its own as it is to destroy Obama. The movement’s undisputed leaders, Palin and Beck, neither of whom has what Palin once called the “actual responsibilities” of public office, would gladly see the Republican Party die on the cross of right-wing ideological purity. Over the short term, at least, their wish could come true.

Scratch Newt-
Quote:
The most prominent GOP endorser of radical leftist NY-23 congressional candidate Dede Scozzafava is openly musing about running for president in 2012.
No, thanks.

The conservative base is wising up and pushing back. And constantly invoking Reagan isn’t going to erase the damage Gingrich has done to his brand over the years by wavering on core issues and teaming up with some of the Left’s biggest clowns.
Picture the cabinet:
Al Sharpton as education secretary.
Scozzafava as labor secretary.
Al Gore as global warming czar.
Noooooo, thanks
Michelle Malkin

Pretty soon the "party" will have a secret password.

Don't blame you for gloating. I'll protect my ego by asserting that governors' races are less about national issues, and that if they are then Virginia was a result of coal concerns.

But man, they elected as governor a real honest-to-god Pat Robertson wannabe. That should make us in the Northeast remember that it's a big country. The Bible Belt is real.

Corzine was his own worst enemy.

On the plus side, Dems added a seat in the House, and Bloomberg spent like $100 milion in just one city and won by two percentage points? That might concern Republicans. I wonder how much that was per vote?

Mayor Menino won his fifth term as mayor of Boston.

That is a big victory for President Obama and Nancy Pelosi.

The people have reinforced their values at the polls.

Gloating? Not me. I voted for John Lynch, by the way.

I don't necessarily disagree with your analyses of Corzine and McDonnell. But the results in NJ and VA should make Democrats pretty uncomfortable as they look ahead to the mid-terms next year. The President himself stumped for his party in both races and it made zero difference. That is significant.

I'm sure you were as shocked as I was by this outcome.

How do you figure this is this a victory for Obama and Pelosi? Flaherty is also a Democrat.

actually Democrats knew that both Governor races were lost - President Obama too.. this wasn't a referendum on his presidency, as exit polls found when asked, voters in both states like Obama - it was local politics they were disagreeing with.

The real story was in upstate NY - what an exciting time!

Just playing devil's advocate, if the governor's races in Virginia and New Jersey are referendums on Democratic policies in Washington, (that's how Andy Hiller characterized them on Channel 7) then maybe the same can be applied to the mayor's race.
